Public relations
During the 2017 Yellow Medicine County Fair I had the opportunity to be on the radio with the help of Paul Raymo. He is a broadcaster from our local radio station out of Madison, MN. We discussed what was going on with the events that day and what was coming up in the next few days.
I was able to use my ability to public speak to help me succeed at my first on air interview. It challenged me because I was unable to see the audience, yet I knew they were there so I had to think on my feet. The questions that were being asked of me were not discussed ahead of time so there was no time to prepare my answers. I also was able to show my excitement and enthusiasm for our county fair through just my words.
The idea to create Member Spotlights was derived from all of the questions I had received about what 4-H was like and what my kids' favorite part was.
I sent out emails, Facebook messages and even text messages to all the youth in our county's 4-H program. I asked if they would be willing to participate and answer a few questions as well as submit a picture.
The Member Spotlights were posted during the county fair for all the fair goers to see. Many positive comments were heard and the youth loved seeing their pictures up on the wall!
