Management or Supervision
This summer was the first time in almost 10 years that Yellow Medicine County has had an intern.
When I started my position in June I had a meeting with the intern to lay out the summer and make plans for how things would work.
This was all new to me as I have never had to manage anyone else, much less an intern who was looking to me to learn something during the summer.
I had to manage my schedule and her schedule so that the items she needed to help me with would happen on days that she was in the office. I also had to complete an intern review at the end of her time working with me. We sat down and discussed things that were a concern to either of us and worked on figuring out solutions to the issues.
Between being the Interim 4-H Program Coordinator as well as the 4-H Horse Club leader, I had to complete all the steps to prepare for the county fair horse show.
I utilized my ability to multitask to help me completely set up the horse show from start to finish. I had a hand in everything from selecting the judge all the way to ordering the ribbons and filling out the paperwork to decide who goes to state fair.
Being able to experience what really goes into setting up a horse show. I also had to work with the books to figure out the points systems and determine who was granted state fair trips. It also taught me how to remove my personal opinions and feelings about situations/people from the equation when figuring out the state trips and just decide those based on numbers only.
