Volunteer Recruitment or Volunteer Management
One of the tasks for setting up the county fair horse show was finding volunteers. For this, I decided the easiest thing to do would be to utilize our club's Facebook page to ask for volunteers. My first plan of action was to set up a schedule of what needed to be done and what times I needed help with, then I placed the
After about a week, I then started calling those that never responded on Facebook and asked where they would be willing to help out during the show.
I learned that when speaking to them, if I used an enthusiastic voice and told them why I needed their help and why I thought they'd do a great job with it, they were more likely to volunteer to help during the show.
The day of the show I made sure that I was down at the arena to get people what they needed in order to be ready for the show. Once the show was underway and everyone had their questions asked, I left my phone number with them in case problems or questions arise during the show.
Part of my job as Interim 4-H Program Coordinator was that I had to find volunteers to be judges assistants for both the livestock shows and load in along with general judging.
I decided to utilize a website that I had seen another county use, www.signupgenius.com, to generate the time frames that we needed judges assistants for.
Overall, the website got a lot of good feedback, volunteers were able to sign up for the shifts they wanted within a couple minutes. This method varied from those used in the past of emailing, mailing letters and making phone calls.
I learned that sometimes you can change things up and have them work out for the best. The feedback I received was all positive.
